The Lash Line: Where Beauty and Eye Health Intersect

By Dr. Nieka Sabeti
The lash line is one of the areas I talk about most often in clinic, yet it remains one of the most overlooked parts of our beauty routines.
It's easy to think of the lash line simply as a place to apply mascara or eyeliner, but it's also home to something incredibly important: the meibomian glands. These tiny oil-producing glands sit along the eyelid margins and help create the protective layer of our tears, keeping the eyes comfortable and preventing them from drying out too quickly.
When makeup is applied too close to these structures, particularly along the inner rim of the eyelids, it has the potential to interfere with their normal function. Over time, this can contribute to irritation, dryness, and discomfort, especially in those who are already prone to sensitive or dry eyes.
This doesn't mean we have to choose between beauty and eye health. Rather, it invites us to approach our routines more thoughtfully. The products we use, the way we apply them, and how gently we remove them all matter.
At CHESHMA, this philosophy guides everything we create. We believe that cosmetics should work in harmony with the eyes, not against them. Because the most beautiful products are the ones that allow you to feel confident and comfortable, while respecting the delicate structures that support lifelong eye health.
After all, beauty should never come at the expense of well-being. It should enhance it.
